Privacy
Policy.

Your privacy matters to us. This policy explains what personal information BarberBoats.co.nz collects, why we collect it, how we use and protect it, and the rights you have under the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020.

General information only

This Privacy Policy is an informational template written to reflect the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020. It is provided for general guidance and does not constitute legal advice. For advice about your specific situation, please consult a qualified New Zealand lawyer or the Office of the Privacy Commissioner.

Who we are and the scope of this policy

[ 01 ]

BarberBoats.co.nz (“BarberBoats”, “we”, “us”, “our”) is an independent gambling information and comparison service for New Zealand audiences. We are the “agency” responsible for the personal information collected through this website, as that term is used in the Privacy Act 2020. This policy applies to personal information we collect through the Site โ€” it does not apply to third-party operators you visit through our links, who each have their own privacy policies.

What personal information we collect

[ 02 ]

We aim to collect as little personal information as possible. The information we may collect includes:

  • Contact form data โ€” if you use our contact form or email us, we collect your name, email address and the content of your message.
  • Analytics data โ€” aggregated, mostly non-identifying information about how visitors use the Site (pages viewed, time on page, referral source, approximate location).
  • Technical / device data โ€” your IP address, browser type and version, operating system, device type and screen size, collected automatically by our servers and analytics tools.
  • Cookies and similar technologies โ€” small files stored on your device; see section 6 and our Cookie Policy.

We do not collect payment details, do not run gambling accounts, and do not ask for sensitive information such as financial or health data. Because we are an information and comparison service rather than a gambling operator, we never see or store the personal or financial details you provide directly to an operator when you register or deposit with them.

Some of the information above may be “personal information” under the Privacy Act 2020 โ€” that is, information about an identifiable individual. Much of our analytics data is aggregated or pseudonymous and does not identify you personally. Where information is not linked to an identifiable person, the Privacy Act's obligations generally do not apply, but we still handle it carefully.

How and why we collect and use your information

[ 03 ]

We collect personal information for lawful purposes connected with our functions and activities, and we use it only for those purposes. Specifically, we use your information to:

  • respond to your enquiries and provide the support you ask for;
  • operate, maintain and secure the Site;
  • understand how our content is used so we can improve it;
  • measure the performance of our editorial and affiliate content;
  • comply with our legal obligations.

Where we can, we collect information directly from you โ€” for example, the details you type into our contact form. Some technical data (such as your IP address and browser type) is collected automatically by our servers and analytics tools when you visit the Site, which is standard for virtually all websites.

We rely on a mix of lawful bases for this processing: your voluntary submission of information (for instance, when you email us), our legitimate interest in operating and improving the Site securely, and, where required, your consent to non-essential cookies. We will not use your information for a new, unrelated purpose without telling you or, where necessary, obtaining your consent.

The Privacy Act 2020 and the 13 Information Privacy Principles

[ 04 ]

The New Zealand Privacy Act 2020 is built around 13 Information Privacy Principles (IPPs). We handle your personal information in accordance with these principles:

IPPPrincipleHow we apply it
IPP 1Purpose of collectionWe only collect information we genuinely need for the purposes above.
IPP 2Source of collectionWe collect directly from you wherever practical.
IPP 3Collection from the individualWe tell you why we are collecting information and how to contact us (this policy).
IPP 4Manner of collectionWe collect lawfully and fairly, never intrusively.
IPP 5Storage and securityWe take reasonable safeguards to protect information โ€” see section 7.
IPP 6AccessYou may request access to the personal information we hold about you.
IPP 7CorrectionYou may ask us to correct information that is wrong.
IPP 8AccuracyWe take reasonable steps to keep information accurate before using it.
IPP 9RetentionWe don't keep information longer than needed โ€” see section 8.
IPP 10UseWe use information only for the purpose it was collected, or a directly related one.
IPP 11DisclosureWe disclose information only as described in this policy.
IPP 12Cross-border disclosureWe only send information overseas with appropriate safeguards โ€” see section 7.
IPP 13Unique identifiersWe do not assign unique identifiers to individuals.

Cookies and analytics

[ 05 ]

Like most websites, we use cookies and similar technologies to make the Site work, remember your preferences, and understand how it is used. We use analytics tools (such as Google Analytics) that set cookies and collect usage data. For a full explanation of the cookies we use, how long they last, and how to control or disable them, please read our dedicated Cookie Policy.

Third parties and affiliate networks

[ 06 ]

We work with a small number of trusted third parties who process data on our behalf or as part of the services they provide, including:

  • Analytics providers (e.g. Google Analytics) โ€” to measure Site usage;
  • Hosting and infrastructure providers โ€” to deliver and secure the Site;
  • Affiliate networks and operators โ€” when you click an affiliate link, the destination operator or network may set its own tracking cookie to attribute a referral. That processing is governed by their privacy policy, not ours.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share your contact-form details with operators or advertisers.

Data storage, security and cross-border disclosure

[ 07 ]

We take reasonable technical and organisational steps to protect your personal information against loss, misuse and unauthorised access, including SSL encryption of the Site and access controls on our systems.

Some of our service providers (for example, hosting and analytics providers) store or process data on servers located outside New Zealand. Under the Privacy Act 2020 (IPP 12 / section 22), we only disclose personal information to an overseas provider where that provider is subject to comparable privacy safeguards, is bound by contractual protections, or the disclosure otherwise complies with the Act. By using the Site, you acknowledge that your information may be processed overseas on this basis.

How long we keep your information

[ 08 ]

We keep personal information only for as long as necessary for the purpose it was collected, or as required by law. Contact-form correspondence is generally retained while we deal with your enquiry and for a reasonable period afterward, then deleted. Aggregated analytics data may be retained for longer because it does not identify you personally.

Your rights to access and correct your information

[ 09 ]

Under the Privacy Act 2020 you have the right to request access to the personal information we hold about you, and to request correction of any information that is inaccurate. To make a request, email [email protected]. We will respond as soon as reasonably practicable and within the statutory timeframe (generally 20 working days). We may need to verify your identity before releasing information.

How to make a complaint

[ 10 ]

If you have a concern about how we have handled your personal information, please contact us first at [email protected] so we can try to resolve it. If you are not satisfied, you may complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner:

Children

[ 11 ]

The Site is intended for adults aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If we become aware that we have inadvertently collected information from a minor, we will delete it. If you believe a minor has provided us with personal information, please contact us.

Changes to this policy

[ 12 ]

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in the law or our practices. The current version will always be published on this page with the “Last updated” date shown above. We encourage you to review it periodically.
